It looks like we mostly friended each other. How do we want to do check ins?

At least two names in this group are familiar to me. Not sure from where, but I've see you around.

Since we are friending each other, here is a quick primer on what might pop up in my personal posts (which you are free to ignore.)

I had a stroke on 9/27//16. They cant find a cause and I am too young/healthy to be at risk for one. I am expected to make a full recovery. I've been told I should be healed by April. My Nuero is really, really blasé about my prognosis. I start each day fine, but then I start to run low on spoons. I have more spoons each week, but I am not back to 100%.

My word counts will be terrible for the first few months.

That was my attempt to explain things as simply as possible. Feel free to ask questions, even nosy ones.

Hopefully someone else knows the best way to run this thing. Normally, I am quick to step up to run groups. I have a lot of organizing exp, from communities to conventions, but I would really, really like to avoid such things right now.

Geez, a stroke? That's awful! I'm glad to hear they think you'll make a full recovery. Does the attitude of your neuro annoy you or are you OK with it?

Don't worry too much about your word counts. The writing is probably good for you but don't stress on it because that DEF is not.

I haven't any idea how to run this thing via DW and pretty much all my ideas involve using supplementary media for the purposes of keeping in touch and supporting one another.

Wow, hope you can fight your way through this. Positive thoughts to you. No worry about wordcount.
I have to admit, I am only just using dw, I am familiar with LJ and AO3. I am still figuring out how to link lj and dw... :-)

Sorry that you had to deal with sonething like that. Neurological issues are at times frustrating and at times scary as hell. This something I know and relate to. Thirteen years ago I had to have brain surgery because I have a condition called Arnold Chiari Malformation. The surgery arrests the progression of issues that happen, but there is no permanent cure for it. Depending on my day or the mood, you may see me discuss it on my journal.

Right now, there have been a lot of political ranting because I have strong opinions, so feel free to just scroll past those if you want to.

My word counts tend to fluctuate due to how my health issues are treating me. I do write some original fiction and poetry, but have been taken over by certain fandoms as of late. :)

There may be times that I talk to you guys where I will have weird spelling errors. That is due to the fact that I am so not used to using my tablet and the keyboard screen pop up moves or disappears on me at random times. Yhe reason for using my tablet? I broke the three bones in my ankle in December and then two days before Christmas I had to have surgery on said ankle. Being in a cast and now a transitional boot, it’s difficult and painful sometimes to try and manuever my laptop around the leg -- especially because I am supposed to keep it elevated a lot of the time. I may be one of the most accident prone and klutzy people around.

Oh! If you guys want to get an idea of what I write, my AO3 username is Shadowcat. I also have a fiction journal (woefully out of date in updating) and a poetry journal (even more woefully out of date) here on DW. [personal profile] deeperwonderment is my fiction journal and [personal profile] eternalscribe is my poetry journal. I also have a journal for all of my original fiction, but I can't remember the username. I am kind of OCD so separated them out into their own spaces.

I am curious to know what fandoms or interests we all share? I'm also looking forward to getting to know you guys and seeing how we can encourage and help each other.

Oh, cool! I've been doing a lot of Tolkien writing for old favorite pairings and a couple of new ones, too.

80s stuff? I have a few fandoms from that time, too.

My main 80s love is a show called The Young Riders. I love that show so very damn much. Movie Labyrinth is another from that era. The other shows and movies that I write fiction for is kind of all over the spectrum of years.

As music, I am so eclectic with what I listen to at any point and some of my music loves can be off the wall. I listen to a lot of old alternative bands one moment, the next I'm listening to Pink Floyd or Broadway soundtracks.

I love The Young Riders was one of my favorite shows back then and I still love it.

Oh, Highlander was a really good movie and I also enjoyed the TV series.

Is it possible to not be ridiculously fannish over Buckaroo Banzai?

Because, you know, it's Buckaroo Fucking Banzai. BRB, my happy place is calling.

Sorry to be late on answering - I'm hoping having buddies will keep me poking at DW more.

I am so sorry for your troubles - there is nothing like being the one the doctors look at and say, "Well, this one's out of the norm..." Sigh.

I say nothing new when I say your health comes before all else - if it feels good to write, then write on, and when it doesn't, who's going to raise an eyebrow at you?

Not us, your new writing buddies group! :)

And - show of hands - anyone planning on shaming Shadowcat for her boot or her spelling? Nope, didn't think so.

As to how to run this... Well, my email is rattlecatcher _at_ yahoo.com - we can make a small listserv, perhaps - it's old school but it can be useful. Or - as I said I wanted to get more Dreamwidth-y, maybe we just, I don't know, pledge to send out a writing buddies post twice a week? I mean, one of us posts, the others answer, and then again later in the week? We can take turns and see how it works for February?

To let you know my writing stuff, I've a tangle of connected stories that span a few fandoms and j-u-s-t a few original characters. It's a rabbit hole, I admit. I'm at the 200k level, which I did last year - but flamed out hard in the last quarter. I have pledged again at that level - and yet January was less than 8k.

But (for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture) I have quit my job and am moving to Oregon. I will need to be gainfully employed again, and at the moment I might want to spend some time packing, but I should also be able to stare at a blank screen and add words. God I hope I can. The writing drought is unnerving.

Would you like me to set up a comm and then invite everyone else? We can all be members/posting access/administrators so no one feels like someone else "owns" the group. I think a comm is a great way to go and don't know why I didn't think of it.
